INTRODUCTION TO THE TOURNAMENT

*Update 3/20

Due to lack of registrants, the 2021 March Madness Tournament is cancelled. Full check refunds will be sent via US mail to the person on record as the team registrant.

Southampton Basketball proudly presents the 3-on-3 March Madness Tournament.   During a time when not much is 'normal', we wanted to give kids the opportunity to play basketball with and against their friends in a structured and competitive enirononment.

The 3 on 3 TOURNAMENT is a fast paced, fun, and competitive half-court basketball tournament.  It differs from a traditional 5 on 5 basketball game in the following areas:
- number of players on the court (3)
- number of players on a roster (4 / 3 players + 1 substitute)
- size of the court (smaller court size)
- rules and regulations adjusted for 3 on 3 competition

COMMONLY ASKED QUESTIONS

DO THE TEAMS NEED A COACH?
A coach or team parent is needed initially to register the team and are expected to assume a 'coaching role' during competitions.

ARE PARENTS ALLOWED TO WATCH THE GAMES?
Current COVID guidelines and the Southampton Township limits the number of people who can enter the gym.  For this reason, only ONE coach and FOUR players are permitted to enter the gym during the tournament.  Unfortunately, spectators are NOT ALLOWED to watch the games in person.

IS THERE A DESIGNATED PERSON IN CHARGE OF EACH TEAM?
At the time of registration, it will be required to designate both a team parent and team captain.  Ideally these two roles should reside in the same household and share contact information.  These individuals will be responsible to contact and communicate all relevant updates and schedules pertaining to the March Madness Tournament in a prompt manner.  Team captains will be responsible for checking in their team with the court monitors on game days.  Additionally, they will be responsible to report the final score to the court monitor and sign out for the team once the game is over.

IS A UNIFORM REQUIRED TO ENTER THE TOURNAMENT?
Team designed uniforms are optional.  All teams must come to their scheduled competitions with a black teeshirt AND a white teeshirt.  (black and white pinnies are perfect).  When teams listed as the AWAY team must wear BLACK for that particular game, and when they are listed as the HOME team, they will wear white.  Numbers are not required for this tournament, (duplicate numbers is not an issue).

MUST WE REGISTER A TEAM OF FOUR PLAYERS?
Because having 3 players plus 1 substitute helps ensures continued pool play in case of schedule conflicts, sickness, or injury - it is necessary to form a team with 4 players.  It is our intention to ensure equal opportunity for all teams and maintaining the tournament schedule is essential for the success of the tournament.

WHAT IF THE TEAM OR ANY ONE MEMBER ON THE TEAM CAN NOT MAKE THE GAMES?
There are no refunds for reasons of conflicts, transportation, injury, or illness.  The only refund that will be made are those registrants who sign up but we did not secure enough teams to run the tournament in their specific divisions.   It is expected that all 4 players attend each game.

GAME DAY PROCEDURES

1.  Arrive 10 minutes before 1st game.
-Must sign into the lobby, temperatures taken, parental waiver signed at each dropoff.
-Must wear masks and maintain 6ft distance from others.
2.  When players are admitted into gym, they will have 10 minutes to
     -check in with Tournament Monitor
-warmup  (both teams warmup on the same basket)
3.  The game will begin exactly at the scheduled game time
-games will not be held up for late arrivals
4.  Games and warmups will have a running clock.  (be ready to go as soon as you enter the gym)
5.  After the game has finished, the winning team captain is responsible to report to the final score  to the court monitor.
